The Mavic XA Pro Carbon 27.5 Wheel is significantly lighter than any aluminium wheel, but also laterally stiffer, yet still as impact resistant and with a decent vertical compliance, so that you can step on the power downhill with total confidence. To achieve this, Mavic pushed their exclusive Finite Element Simulation software to the limit to find a carbon lay up that would best balance light weight, impact resistance, lateral stiffness and vertical compliance in the rim.
Trail riding is all about saving energy on the climbs so you can enjoy the descents even more. And, when well designed, carbon wheels can perform brilliantly at both. However, we’ve heard plenty of feedback from riders that carbon wheels can often perform badly in vertical compliance, which translates into difficult steering and loss of traction and control.
Mavic wanted the XA Pro Carbon to work with the most commonly used trail tire width (2.3 to 2.4), they established that a 26mm hookless rim profile would deliver the best performance. It’s fully UST Tubeless compliant, for improved traction, flat resistance and ease of use. Complete with specifically designed rim tape to seal the rim. The unique Mavic wheel system allowed for fine-tuning to the lacing, ensuring it better complements the rim characteristics. Firstly, Mavic made the rim asymmetric to better balance spoke tension, they also decided to use 24 double butted steel spokes, crossed three on both sides, front and rear, to once again find the sweet spot between lateral stiffness and vertical compliance.
At only 1490g in 27.5'' and 1535g in 29'', the XA Pro Carbon leads the category in terms of weight so is ideal for even the most demanding riders.
